Face detection runs locally in your browser with an on-device model, so your photo is never uploaded and never leaves your computer or phone. The exported image is re-encoded, which also strips hidden metadata such as GPS location from the file.

Blur Faces in Photos FAQ
No. The detection model and the blurring both run in your browser, so your photo stays on your device. You can even use the tool offline once the page has loaded.
It works well for front-facing and slightly angled faces. It can miss faces that are very small, turned away, covered or in heavy shadow, so always check the preview and draw an area by hand over anything it missed.
A strong blur or pixelation makes a face unrecognisable in normal use, and a black block is the safest option. Very light blur can sometimes be partly reversed by software, so use a high strength or the black block for sensitive images.
Yes. The downloaded file is created from the pixels only, so EXIF data such as GPS coordinates, camera model and timestamps is not included.
